Deathsworn Verdict are a 5 year old guild on the server of Ravcrest, created on Defias Brotherhood, which raid 20 man Mythic content. Our goal is to have a progressive focus within a community spirited environment.
We created Deathsworn Verdict in 2011. Initially, we were a group of 4 friends (Katie, Alyssea, Dulcea & Naaren) who had all raided together previously but who had parted ways to raid in separate guilds. We discovered that none of our respective guilds could offer the environment we wanted to raid in, or meet the goals we aimed to achieve. Eventually, we decided to take the plunge and created a guild together.
We were worried about people being unwilling to join a guild that wasn't level 25 and so wanted to create the guild and start levelling it as quickly as possible. We spoke to a GM, who promised we could change the guild name once we had chosen one, and created "Perennial Disappointment" as our placeholder name. Unfortunately, a week later when "Deathsworn Verdict" was chosen as our official name, the policy over guild name changes had changed, and it wasn't allowed. We considered whether we would stick with our disappointing name, but decided we wanted to start as we intended to go on, thus Deathsworn Verdict was born.
We consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to find such competent raiders so quickly. Within a week, we had a 10 man team ready to enter the new tier (Firelands). We were mostly undergeared and playing with very new acquaintances, and so it's remarkable that our raids weren't dreadful failures. Some names of the time are still mentioned from time to time, "Big Heals Vibby" for example.
However, 10 man wasn't our goal, and so we had to continue recruiting in our mission to make 25 man raids a possibility for Deathsworn Verdict. It led to a lot of stress and hard work, and for a month or so we had to carefully manage two 10 man teams. Finally, our first 25 man raid spontaneously occurred, with the help of a small handful of pugs, and it ended disastrously. We were surprised to find, however, that the majority of the pugs made applications to join the guild shortly afterwards, despite having only killed one boss with the guild and wiping for the rest of the night on the next. We like to think it was our atmosphere that encouraged them to join us.
The first officer we promoted was Chagrinfalls, and at a similar time, Naaren and Dulcea both had to step down to retired status when real life affected their ability to continue playing. So we also promoted Gideon and Paccione. Paccione became our first official raid leader.
Towards the end of the tier, we were doing well on the realm rankings, despite being a start up guild. We had a couple of weeks progression on Ragnaros heroic before the new tier came about, but unfortunately we did not see his demise. Around this time, Paccione transferred to join a new competitive guild, Gideon stopped playing, and Burne became our new official raid leader, with Morfiend joining him as a new officer.
We stormed through the first 7 bosses of Dragon Soul normal in the first week of the content release, and were very excited about the tier of heroic progression that lay ahead of us.
